Q: Can I try it before I buy?

Sure you can. ControlUp is free and will remain free for basic use. Your favorite features will be available in all packages of ControlUp, no matter which license you have. With the Basic Free License a single sys admin (ControlUp User) can use ControlUp and the number of monitored sessions is limited to 50.

Q: How is the number of sessions calculated? (1)

ControlUp’s licensing packages are limited by the number of sessions currently established on all of your monitored machines. The total sessions count is a sum of user sessions and system (services) sessions. On Terminal Servers, you will need a ControlUp license for every user session. A workstation consumes one session, whenever a user is logged on to it. Each server of any other kind (DC, Exchange, SQL, File Servers, etc.) consumes 5 sessions, even if no users are currently logged on to it. For example, if you are monitoring 15 Terminal Servers with 10 user sessions each, 50 client computers with one user session each and 20 general-purpose servers (Exchange, DC, SQL , etc.) , you will need a license for a total of 300 sessions. (15*10 + 50*1+ 20*5 = 300 sessions)

Q: How does the 30 day trial work?

After registration, you will get immediate access to all ControlUp features for 30 days. During your trial period there are no limitations on the number of sessions you can monitor. As your trial period expiration approaches, Controlup will automatically notify you and recommend you the right package. As long as your usage is within the basic use ControlUp will remain free!
